Chapter 13 - The Woman in Green

Two years after the hospital, a photograph of me unexpectedly went viral.
I hated it.
It had been taken during the opening of a new maternal-family center funded partly by Daniel's foundation.
I was wearing a green coat.
A reporter asked why I kept Daniel's program separate from Vale Meridian.
I answered:
“Because my son isn't a corporate brand.”
That quote traveled farther than anything our communications department had ever planned.
Thousands of women shared their own stories of pregnancy loss.
Fathers wrote about grief they had never discussed.
Grandparents wrote about watching their children suffer.
For several days, my inbox became a memorial wall for strangers.
I read as many messages as I could.
Then one arrived from Julian.
Daniel would have been proud of you.
I stared at it.
For once, I answered.
I hope so.
Nothing more.
May you like
Nothing needed to be.
