Chapter 16 - Three Tiny Matchmakers
The girls summoned Declan to an emergency meeting.
Lily closed the bedroom door.
“You need to marry Mommy.”
Declan nearly choked.
Emma nodded seriously.
“You love her.”
“Yes.”
“She loves you.”
“I hope so.”
Grace sighed dramatically.
“Adults are difficult.”
Declan laughed.
“Very.”
Lily produced a plastic ring.
“You can use this.”
Declan accepted it solemnly.
“Beautiful.”
“It cost two dollars,” Emma said.
“Don't tell Mommy.”
Declan kept the ring.
Months passed.
He did not rush.
Then one evening Cassidy found the plastic ring on his desk.
She held it up.
“Planning something?”
Declan turned red.
Cassidy laughed until tears came.
Finally he admitted everything.
She kissed him.
“You know you don't need their permission.”
“I’m more worried about yours.”
Cassidy touched his face.
“You'll know when the answer is yes.”
Declan smiled.
