Chapter 14 - The Divorce

My divorce became final eleven months after the fall.

Flynn and I walked from the courthouse together.

Strange, considering everything.

He looked different.

Simpler clothes.

No expensive watch.

He'd sold the sports car.

I didn't ask why.

At the steps, he stopped.

“So this is it.”

“Yes.”

“Are you happy?”

I considered the question.

“I'm getting there.”

He smiled sadly.

“Good.”

“And you?”

“I'm learning how.”

That was enough.

He extended his hand.

I looked at it.

Then shook it.

No kiss.

No embrace.

No promise to remain friends.

Some relationships don't need to be repaired.

They need to be released.

Flynn walked toward one street.

May you like

I walked toward another.

Neither looked back.
