Chapter 13 - The Sister Who Wouldn't Be Left Behind

Nara's wedding to Thomas occurred first.
She insisted it remain small.
It did not.
Nearly the entire settlement attended.
Rourke arrived with supplies.
Caldwell traveled from Tucson.
Even Marshal Hayes appeared.
Nara stood beside Thomas beneath cottonwood branches.
Aayoka cried.
Elias pretended dust had entered his eyes.
Afterward, Nara hugged him.
“You know what you are now?”
“What?”
“My brother.”
Elias froze.
The word hit somewhere deep.
Family.
Not the family he lost.
Not a replacement.
Something new.
He hugged her back.
“I'm sorry for you.”
She laughed through tears.
“You're terrible at this.”
May you like
“I know.”
