Chapter 15 - The First Winter Home

Their first winter was difficult.

Snow came early.

Cattle died.

Food became scarce.

A fever passed through nearby communities.

Yet Elias did not run.

He helped distribute supplies.

Aayoka organized food.

Nara and Thomas opened their home to travelers.

Rourke sent beef without asking payment.

The settlement survived because people depended on one another.

Elias finally understood something his younger self never had.

Needing people was not weakness.

Being needed was not imprisonment.

A home was not the place where nobody could hurt you.

Such a place did not exist.
