Chapter 15 - Grant Came Back
Grant resurfaced eighteen months later.
He sent Dad a letter.
Not Vanessa.
Dad.
He wanted money.
He claimed he possessed information that could embarrass Vanessa and damage the family.
Dad handed the letter directly to Margaret.
She contacted the appropriate authorities.
Grant’s threat collapsed almost immediately.
But Vanessa’s reaction surprised us.
She didn’t panic.
She didn’t ask Dad to fix it.
She hired her own attorney.
She documented everything.
She handled it.
When Dad learned what she had done, he smiled.
“What?” I asked.
“She didn’t call me.”
“You’re happy your daughter didn’t call?”
“She didn’t need me to rescue her.”
That was the moment Dad realized Vanessa really was changing.
Not because she apologized.
Because she behaved differently when pressure returned.
