Chapter 15 - The Ninety-Million-Dollar Question

Two years after the failed boardroom presentation, Apex Horizon called another meeting.

Jonathan Pierce placed a report on my desk.

The total projected value of our expanded relationship had crossed ninety million dollars.

I stared at the figure.

The same number.

Different circumstances.

Grant had once believed ninety million dollars would prove he was successful.

I had once believed taking that contract from him would prove I had won.

Now the number was simply the result of good work.

Jonathan smiled.

“Feels familiar?”

“Unfortunately.”

“You know what the difference is?”

“What?”

“This time the person who created the value is sitting at the table.”

I looked around.

Maya.

Daniel.

Elena.

Jasmine.

The team.

“No,” I said.

“The people who created the value are sitting at the table.”

That afternoon, I gave everyone profit-sharing bonuses.

Jasmine opened hers and stared.

“Is this correct?”

“Yes.”

She covered her mouth.

“My mother can pay off her house.”

“Then tell her congratulations.”

Jasmine cried.

May you like

So did I.

That felt better than ACCESS REVOKED ever had.
