Chapter 10 - The Lawsuit

The lawsuit came from a former business associate connected to Chelsea’s old financial decisions.
It threatened months of progress.
But this time nobody hid anything.
Chelsea called Fiona.
Logan contacted Marcus.
Albert listened.
The difference was immediate.
Nobody asked Albert for a check.
Nobody expected him to solve it.
The claim was disputed, and the documents required careful review.
Weeks passed.
Chelsea cooperated fully.
Eventually evidence showed that several allegations against her were exaggerated, while one smaller financial obligation was legitimate.
A settlement was reached.
Manageable.
Legal.
Transparent.
When it ended, Chelsea sat on Albert’s porch.
“A year ago I would’ve lied about it.”
“I know.”
“I almost did.”
Albert looked at her.
“What stopped you?”
“You.”
He frowned.
“Not your money,” she added. “What happened because I lied.”
Albert nodded.
Chelsea stared across the lake.
“I hated that little apartment when we first moved.”
“Why?”
“It proved I wasn’t who I pretended to be.”
“And now?”
“It’s home.”
Albert smiled.
That evening she left.
Albert remained on the porch.
His phone displayed his investment account.
The number had grown again.
Money had always fascinated him because numbers multiplied quietly.
But something else had multiplied too.
Consequences.
Kindness.
Cruelty.
Courage.
One action could spread through generations.
Albert opened Margaret’s letter again.
Then he made a decision.
He would change his will.
May you like
But not in the way anyone expected.
