Chapter 12 - The Interview Nobody Expected

The studio lights were brighter than Albert expected.

The host began with the obvious question.

“Did you withdraw your financial support to teach your son a lesson?”

Albert answered immediately.

“No.”

The host appeared surprised.

“Then why?”

“Because they wanted independence from me personally while remaining financially dependent on me. That arrangement was unhealthy for everyone.”

“What lesson did you want them to learn?”

“I wasn’t trying to manufacture a lesson.”

Albert glanced at Logan.

“I was establishing a boundary.”

Chelsea nodded.

The host turned toward her.

“Do you believe Albert was wrong?”

Chelsea took a breath.

“I believed that at first.”

“And now?”

“I think the more important question is why I believed someone I disrespected should continue subsidizing my choices.”

Logan spoke next.

“I failed my father before any bank notice arrived.”

Albert looked at him.

“The financial consequences only made me see something that was already true.”

The interview spread widely.

But the clip people shared most was not about $800,000.

It was Logan saying:

I thought avoiding conflict made me a good husband. I didn’t realize I was making my father pay for my silence.

Thousands responded.

Adult children.

Parents.

Couples.

The Open Ledger Project received a surge of requests.

Albert’s story was becoming something larger than family drama.

But fame brought temptation.

A financial company offered Albert a huge sponsorship deal.

The number shocked him.

Logan read the proposal.

“That’s serious money.”

“Yes.”

“What are you going to do?”

Albert studied the contract.

Then smiled.

“What accountants always do.”

He read the fine print.

May you like

And hidden inside it was a clause that made his smile disappear.
