Chapter 12 - Daniel's Last Offer

Daniel offered me ten million dollars to end the corporate litigation.
The number sounded enormous.
It was also less than what experts believed the diverted assets, damages, and ownership consequences could ultimately cost him.
He wanted certainty.
I wanted resolution built on truth.
I rejected the offer.
He increased it.
I rejected that too.
Then he asked to meet.
In a monitored legal setting, we sat across from each other.
“You won,” he said.
“This isn't a game.”
“It was always a game to your father.”
“No. He built safeguards because he didn't trust you.”
Daniel looked wounded.
“He never respected me.”
“He financed you.”
“He controlled me.”
“He gave you a company that was failing and helped turn it into something valuable.”
Daniel looked away.
“I wanted something that was mine.”

“And you destroyed what you already had trying to prove it.”
For once, he had no answer.
