Chapter 6 - The Woman Who Was Fired

We found Elena the following morning.

She worked at a small bakery in Queens.

When I walked inside, she recognized me from the viral video immediately.

“You're her.”

“Claire Blackwood.”

“I know.”

She looked nervous.

I asked for ten minutes.

It became two hours.

Elena had worked in procurement for four years.

Richard's team had pressured her to release confidential vendor pricing.

She refused.

Then complaints suddenly appeared in her file.

She was accused of lateness.

Insubordination.

Missing paperwork.

Within six weeks, she was fired.

“Who signed the termination?” I asked.

She looked at me.

“Samuel Reed.”

Our general manager.

One of the four people who knew my true identity.

My blood went cold.

Samuel hadn't simply ignored employee abuse.

He may have protected it.

And if Elena was telling the truth, the conspiracy was much larger than Vanessa.
