Chapter 15 - The Gala One Year Later

I almost canceled the Ashford Children’s Foundation gala the following year.
Then I decided Grant did not own that night either.
I walked into the ballroom alone.
No husband on my arm.
No performance.
The foundation had recovered every dollar Victor attempted to divert.
New governance rules were in place.
Donations reached a record level.
When I stepped onto the stage, applause filled the room.
I did not discuss Grant.
I did not discuss Piper.
I talked about children.
The people the foundation existed to serve.
Afterward, Marisol approached me.
I recognized her voice before her face.
“The hospital administrator?” I asked.
She smiled.
“The one who ruined your Wednesday.”
I hugged her.
“No.”
May you like
She looked surprised.
“You saved it.”
