Chapter 10 - The Nanny Who Walked Back Into the Mansion

Leo’s father had hidden the truth.
Years earlier, his first child had been taken during a failed security operation.
The family believed the infant died.
Celeste had kept him alive as leverage.
Now fourteen, the boy had grown up under another identity.
His name was Daniel.
Saraphina’s anger became something sharper.
“This woman collects children.”
Julian looked sick.
“She collects leverage.”
“No. Stop using business words.”
Everyone went silent.
“They’re children.”
Elias looked at her.
She continued.
“Serena was a child. I was a child. Daniel was a baby. Leo is four.”
She pointed toward the hotel plans.
“This ends tonight.”
Nobody argued.
The plan was dangerous but simple.
Saraphina would enter as agreed.
Elias’s team would remain outside the security perimeter.
Julian would disable the internal locks.
Saraphina carried a fake archive token.
The real gold pendant stayed with Matteo.
At midnight she entered the abandoned hotel.
No black dress.
No dramatic disguise.
She wore the same practical denim dress she had worn while playing hide-and-seek with Leo.
She chose it deliberately.
Celeste expected an heiress.
Saraphina entered as a nanny.
As herself.
Celeste waited in the ballroom.
Silver hair.
Perfect posture.
Cold smile.
“You look like Serena.”
Saraphina stopped ten feet away.
“You look like someone who should have stayed dead.”
Celeste laughed.
“I understand why Elias likes you.”
Saraphina did not react.
“Where are they?”
“Business first.”
“My mother.”
“Which one?”
The cruelty was intentional.
Saraphina refused to show pain.
“Both.”
Celeste gestured.
Two doors opened.
Jacqueline entered first.
Saraphina nearly ran to her.
Then Serena appeared.
Older.
Thin.
Tired.
But alive.
Saraphina stopped breathing.
Serena covered her mouth.
For twenty-one years, Saraphina had dreamed of a woman without a face.
Now the face was standing before her.
“Baby.”
Saraphina broke.
She crossed the room.
A guard stopped her.
Celeste lifted one finger.
“After.”
Saraphina stared at her.
“You brought me here. I’m here.”
“The token.”
Saraphina held it up.
Celeste smiled.
“Good girl.”
Saraphina’s expression changed instantly.
“Don’t call me that.”
For the first time, Celeste’s smile weakened.
Meanwhile, Julian entered the security room.
He disabled one lock.
Then another.
Elias waited beneath the hotel.
Everything depended on timing.
Saraphina needed to keep Celeste talking.
“Why did you do it?”
Celeste tilted her head.
“Do what?”
“Destroy an entire family over money.”
“Money?”
Celeste laughed.
“This was never about money.”
“Then what?”
“Power.”
She stepped closer.
“Your grandfather built an empire and gave control to sons who were too sentimental to deserve it. Your grandmother tried to dismantle what he created.”
“So you killed her.”
Celeste did not deny it.
Serena’s eyes filled with hatred.
Saraphina kept going.
“And you tried to kill Serena.”
“I tried to correct a succession problem.”
Saraphina felt physically ill.
She secretly pressed a button inside her sleeve.
Everything Celeste said was being transmitted.
Recorded.
Elias heard every word.
So did Matteo.
So did a secure server connected to multiple international law enforcement contacts.
Celeste continued speaking because arrogant people rarely imagined the invisible were dangerous.
That had always been Saraphina’s advantage.
She listened.
She noticed.
She remembered.
A tiny green light flashed above the ballroom door.
Julian’s signal.
Locks disabled.
Saraphina looked at Serena.
Then Jacqueline.
“Down.”
They dropped instantly.
The lights went out.
Elias’s team entered.
No gunfire.
No chaotic battle.
Just darkness, alarms and precisely executed arrests.
Celeste tried to escape through a service corridor.
Saraphina followed.
Not to fight her.
To stop her reaching Daniel.
She found the basement door.
Locked.
She entered the phrase Julian gave her.
The door opened.
Inside sat a teenage boy.
Terrified.
“Daniel?”
He backed away.
“Who are you?”
Saraphina crouched.
“My name is Saraphina.”
He stared.
“Are you with them?”
“No.”
“How do I know?”
She smiled softly.
“You don’t.”
The same answer Elias should have given her days earlier.
“So I’m not asking you to trust me. I’m asking you to walk beside me until you decide.”
Daniel stared at her.
Then slowly reached out.
Saraphina took his hand.
Upstairs, Celeste had disappeared.
But Serena and Jacqueline were safe.
And when Elias saw Saraphina emerge holding Daniel’s hand, something in him changed permanently.
She had entered his world as someone he considered disposable.
She had just walked out carrying the person nobody else remembered to save.
May you like
But Celeste was still free—and her next move would strike at the only person Saraphina had never expected her to target: Leo.
