Chapter 11 - Leo’s Innocent Drawing Exposed a Traitor

They returned to Monaco before dawn.
Leo ran toward Saraphina.
Then stopped when he saw Daniel.
Children often recognized truths adults complicated.
“You look like me.”
Daniel stared.
Leo pointed at his eyes.
“Same blue.”
Nobody knew what to say.
Then Leo smiled.
“Do you like dinosaurs?”
Daniel laughed for the first time.
“Yes.”
That was enough.
Within an hour they were sitting on the nursery floor.
Saraphina watched from the doorway.
Serena stood beside her.
Neither woman knew how to begin being mother and daughter.
So Serena said the simplest thing.
“You always loved yellow.”
Saraphina smiled.
“I still do.”
“I know.”
“How?”
“Jacqueline sent pictures.”
Saraphina looked at the woman who had raised her.
Jacqueline nodded.
“I promised Serena she would never lose you entirely.”
Saraphina cried again.
There were too many emotions now.
Anger.
Relief.
Love.
Grief for years that could not be returned.
No single word could hold them.
Later Leo brought Saraphina a drawing.
It showed the mansion.
Saraphina.
Elias.
Daniel.
And a man standing near the gate.
“Who’s that?”
“Mr. Thomas.”
Thomas was the head groundskeeper.
Harmless.
Sixty years old.
Employed fifteen years.
“What is he holding?”
Leo pointed.
“Silver lady’s phone.”
Saraphina froze.
“When?”
“Yesterday.”
She found Elias.
Within twenty minutes, Thomas was questioned.
His bank records revealed payments from a shell company linked to Celeste.
The traitor inside the mansion had been invisible because nobody considered gardeners part of security.
Saraphina understood the irony.
People who served were always underestimated.
Thomas confessed.
Celeste had ordered him to leave a side gate accessible.
Her next target was Leo.
Elias doubled security.
Saraphina disagreed.
“She expects you to do that.”
“So?”
“So she’ll attack somewhere else.”
“Where?”
Saraphina looked toward Daniel.
“Through the brother nobody knows exists.”
They searched Daniel’s belongings.
Inside the sole of his shoe, they found a tracking chip.
Celeste had allowed him to be rescued.
She wanted them to bring him into the mansion.
Elias crushed the device.
Saraphina stopped him.
“No.”
He looked at her.
“Leave it active.”
“Why?”
“Because for the first time, we know what she thinks she knows.”
Elias smiled slowly.
Saraphina recognized it.
The predator was back.
Only now they were hunting together.
They moved the tracker to an empty coastal villa.
Celeste’s men arrived that night.
They found nobody.
But security cameras captured their vehicles.
One registration led to a warehouse.
Inside the warehouse, investigators found the missing servers containing Celeste’s financial records.
They finally had evidence.
But Celeste vanished again.
The next morning, an envelope appeared beneath Leo’s bedroom door.
Impossible.
Security had been airtight.
Inside was another childish drawing.
This one showed Saraphina standing alone beside a grave.
On the back:
You cannot save everyone.
Saraphina stared.
Elias took the paper.
“She wants you afraid.”
“It’s working.”
He looked at her.
She did not pretend otherwise.
Fear was not weakness.
It was information.
“What are you afraid of?”
“Losing them after just finding them.”
Elias understood.
“I can’t promise that won’t happen.”
Saraphina looked at him.
“That might be the first honest promise anyone has made me.”
He reached for her hand.
Slowly.
Giving her time to pull away.
She did not.
Neither spoke.
Their fingers intertwined.
Then Matteo entered.
He stopped.
Looked at their hands.
Pretended not to.
“We found Celeste.”
Elias released Saraphina.
“Where?”
Matteo looked grim.
“Live television.”
They turned on the screen.
Celeste sat inside a luxury hotel suite giving an interview.
Not as a fugitive.
As a whistleblower.
She claimed Elias had kidnapped multiple innocent people.
Including Saraphina.
Reporters were already outside the mansion.
Saraphina stared at the screen.
Celeste smiled into the camera.
“She turned the story around.”
Elias’s face hardened.
Saraphina understood immediately.
This battle would no longer be fought in hidden rooms.
Celeste had taken it public.
May you like
And by sunrise, half the world believed Elias was the villain Saraphina herself had once believed him to be.
