Chapter 13 - The Woman at the Door

The next morning, a woman arrived carrying a little girl in a pink dress.
Alina recognized the child.
Sofia.
The daughter of one of Dorian’s former security officers.
The man had died protecting Dorian two years earlier.
The woman explained that Dorian had quietly supported Sofia ever since.
School.
Housing.
Medical care.
No publicity.
No obligation.
Alina realized something important.
Dorian knew how to love.
He simply expressed love through responsibility because responsibility was safer than vulnerability.
That afternoon Sofia asked Alina an innocent question.
“Is Mr. Dorian going to be a daddy?”
Alina smiled through tears.
“Yes.”
“Is he scared?”
Alina thought of the ultrasound.
“Yes.”
Sofia nodded solemnly.
