Chapter 15 - Their First Date After Marriage

They chose a tiny Italian restaurant.

No private room.

No armored convoy outside the window.

No business.

No discussions about enemies.

They talked like strangers who happened to know everything about each other.

Alina asked what he feared.

“Losing you.”

“Besides me.”

“Becoming my father.”

That answer stayed with her.

Dorian asked what she feared.

“Loving you enough to forget what happened.”

He nodded.

“You shouldn’t forget.”

“What should I do?”

“Watch what I do next.”

So she did.

Weeks became months.

Dorian attended counseling with her.

He transferred decision-making authority over her security arrangements to Alina herself.

He showed her every threat.

Every risk.

Every uncomfortable truth.

Sometimes she hated knowing.

But she never again hated being excluded.

Trust returned slowly.

Not like lightning.

Like sunrise.
