THE WIFE HE LEFT WITH NOTHING / Chapter 14 / 19

Chapter 14 - One Year Later

A year after Sabrina walked through the rain with one sports bag, she returned to Crestview Tower.

This time, she was not seeking protection.

She was presenting a deal.

Miller Horizon had grown faster than expected.

Its portfolio companies were thriving.

Sabrina entered the same boardroom where she had once played Gavin’s recording.

David sat at the head of the table.

But he did not call her his daughter.

“Ms. Miller,” he said formally. “Tell us why Crestview should invest.”

Sabrina smiled.

Then she began.

For forty minutes, she presented market data, financial projections, risk analysis, and strategy.

Nobody gave her an easy question.

She did not want one.

When she finished, she left the room while the board deliberated.

David did not follow.

Two hours later, Crestview approved the investment.

Not because Sabrina was David Miller’s daughter.

Because Miller Horizon had earned it.

She stood alone in the elevator afterward and cried.

They were good tears.

She called Claire.

“We got it.”

Claire screamed so loudly Sabrina pulled the phone away.

Then Sabrina called her father.

He answered formally.

“Ms. Miller.”

“Stop.”

David laughed.

“Congratulations.”

“Did you vote?”

“I recused myself.”

Sabrina smiled.

Of course he had.

That made the victory even better.

Then David said something unexpected.

“Gavin asked about you.”

Her smile faded.

“What did you tell him?”

“Nothing.”

“Thank you.”

“He's speaking at the SwiftFreight employee meeting tomorrow.”

“Why?”

“The board has reached a decision about his future.”

Sabrina looked through the elevator’s glass wall at Minneapolis below.

She had thought Gavin's chapter in her life was finished.

May you like

Perhaps it was.

But she still wanted to know what kind of man had emerged from the ruins.
