Chapter 13 - Aleandro Returned to the World He Had Left Behind
Aleandro drove back to the city alone.
He had avoided Marone headquarters for six months.
When he entered, conversations stopped.
Men stood.
Some from respect.
Others from fear.
Matteo waited in Aleandro’s former office.
“You’re supposed to be growing grapes.”
“You sold information about my property.”
Matteo smiled.
“Business.”
“You endangered Eva.”
“Who?”
Aleandro stepped closer.
“Careful.”
Matteo leaned back.
“You left, cousin. You don’t get to walk away and then return whenever something becomes personal.”
Aleandro stared at him.
“That’s exactly why I’m here.”
“For the girl?”
“For the line you crossed.”
Matteo laughed.
“After everything we’ve done, now you have morals?”
Aleandro considered the question.
“No.”
He turned toward the door.
“I have consequences.”
By nightfall Aleandro had removed every remaining account, property, and legal interest he still controlled from Matteo’s reach.
He did not start a war.
He did something more damaging.
He walked away permanently.
