Chapter 8 - The Night Eva Finally Told Him Everything

That night Eva sat beside him on the terrace.
For nearly an hour she said nothing.
Then:
“Tyler didn’t start cruel.”
Aleandro waited.
“He started charming.”
She told him how Tyler had isolated her gradually.
How he convinced her friends that she was unstable.
How he controlled money.
Her phone.
Her car.
How the first shove became the first apology.
How the apologies became promises.
How the promises became threats.
Then she revealed why Tyler desperately wanted her back.
“I saw something.”
Aleandro turned.
“What?”
“A ledger.”
Tyler had used Eva’s apartment to hide business records.
One evening she discovered names, dates, police payments, shipments, judges, addresses.
“I photographed everything.”
Aleandro leaned forward.
“Where are the photos?”
Eva looked toward the vineyard.
“Hidden.”
“Where?”
“In a place Tyler doesn’t know.”
“That’s why he’s hunting you.”
She nodded.
“He thinks I can destroy him.”
Aleandro answered quietly.
“You probably can.”
Eva looked at him.
“And maybe everyone above him.”
For the first time, Aleandro understood the scale of what had entered his vineyard.
Eva was not merely Tyler Grant’s escaped girlfriend.

She was evidence.
