Chapter 14 - Graduation Night
Emily graduated beneath a cloudless June sky.
Sarah cried before the ceremony even began.
“You're embarrassing me,” Emily whispered.
“That's my job.”
Claire attended.
Daniel attended.
María attended.
Caroline Brooks, Emily's former elementary teacher, attended too.
Emily crossed the stage.
Her name echoed across the field.
Sarah stood cheering.
Emily spotted them afterward.
Four adults connected by one terrible night.
She hugged each of them.
Then she pulled something from her graduation bag.
Charlie.
The old rabbit.
One ear remained permanently twisted.
“You brought him?” María laughed.
“Obviously.”
They took a photograph together.
