Chapter 18 - The Blue Door

Years passed.

Sarah eventually decided to sell her house.

Emily came home to help pack.

They found the telescope.

Still missing two screws.

Charlie.

Old school projects.

The astronomy medal.

And finally the blue front door.

Not literally, of course.

But Sarah had saved the small paint sample from when she first bought the house.

Emily held it.

“I used to call this the blue-door house.”

“I remember.”

“It was the first place I slept without wondering who was outside my room.”

Sarah's eyes filled.

Emily hugged her.

“You gave me a home.”

Sarah shook her head.

“You made it one.”

Before leaving, Emily asked the new owners whether she could take something strange.

“What?”

“The old house number.”

They laughed and agreed.

Emily mounted it later inside her own home.
