Chapter 13 - The Employees Adrian Forgot

Mercer Dynamics had twenty-eight hundred employees.
They became my next concern.
Dad initially wanted Ellison Global nowhere near the company.
I disagreed.
“Adrian failed them,” I said. “They didn't fail us.”
Independent restructuring experts reviewed Mercer Dynamics.
The underlying technology remained valuable.
Several divisions were profitable.
The company could survive.
But only under new leadership.
Ellison Global joined a consortium providing restructuring financing.
Strict conditions applied.
Independent board.
New CEO.
New CFO.
Enhanced compliance.
Employee protections.
No Adrian.
I refused any management role.
This wasn't revenge ownership.
It was damage containment.
Six months later, Mercer Dynamics stabilized.
Hundreds of jobs that had appeared endangered were preserved.
At a company town hall, one employee asked the new CEO why Ellison had helped after everything Adrian did.
The CEO answered:
“Because accountability isn't the same thing as destruction.”
When Dad told me, I smiled.
That sentence mattered more than every headline about Adrian's downfall.
Because I finally understood something.
The night I told Dad to destroy Adrian's life, I had been hurt and terrified.
What followed wasn't my father indiscriminately destroying someone.
It was hidden support being withdrawn.
Evidence being examined.
Contracts being reviewed.
Crimes being investigated.

And choices producing consequences.
