Chapter 7 - When Dominic Started Watching Differently

Dominic believed fear was useful.

It kept people alive.

But seeing fear in Beatrice made him furious.

She told him what she had seen.

Not accusations.

Facts.

Victor near the cabinet.

Repeatedly.

The missing bag.

The strange warning.

Dominic listened.

Then he said the one thing she did not want to hear.

“Victor has been with me twelve years.”

“So?”

“He saved my life.”

“Then maybe I’m wrong.”

Dominic saw the hurt in her expression.

“That isn’t what I said.”

“It’s what you meant.”

She walked away.

Dominic did not follow.

That was his mistake.

That night Victor learned Beatrice had spoken to him.

The next morning, an anonymous message reached one of Dominic’s rivals.

It contained a floor plan.

A security schedule.

And one instruction.

Take the boy alive.
