Chapter 12 - She Stood Between Leo and Death

Beatrice turned.

Dominic stood there.

She exhaled.

“You nearly killed me.”

“You promised not to investigate alone.”

“I’m sitting on a bed.”

“With the expression you make when you’ve discovered something.”

“I have an expression?”

“Yes.”

“That’s inconvenient.”

She showed him.

Dominic studied the screen.

Then his face became terrifyingly still.

Victor Hale had a younger brother.

Michael.

Michael had gambling debts.

Massive ones.

And the rival organization attacking Dominic had recently erased those debts.

Dominic immediately ordered Victor detained.

Too late.

Victor was gone.

So was one of the security vehicles.

Then Dominic received a message.

A photograph.

Victor stood beside Michael.

The caption read:

You trusted the wrong man.

Dominic stared at it.

Beatrice watched betrayal hollow something inside him.

“Twelve years,” he said.

She touched his arm.

Dominic looked at her.

“I should have believed you.”

“You believed history.”

“And almost got you killed.”

“No. Victor did that.”

Dominic’s jaw tightened.

“Not again.”

But Victor was not finished.

He knew Dominic’s businesses.

His allies.

His enemies.

And most dangerously—

He knew Dominic cared about Beatrice.
