Chapter 15 - Someone Leo Trusted
Victor made one final mistake.
He contacted Leo.
A message arrived on the boy’s tablet.
Uncle Victor needs your help. Don’t tell Daddy.
Leo immediately showed Beatrice.
Her blood chilled.
Dominic traced the connection.
An abandoned warehouse near the river.
Everyone knew it was bait.
Dominic went anyway.
But this time he did not go alone.
Police contacts surrounded the area.
His own trusted security closed every exit.
Victor expected an emotional father.
Instead he found a prepared one.
Beatrice stayed home with Leo.
Hours passed.
Then the front door opened.
Dominic entered.
Alive.
Beatrice ran to him before remembering she was supposed to have dignity.
She threw her arms around him.
Dominic caught her.
Leo came running.
“Daddy!”
Dominic pulled him in too.
For a long time the three simply stood there.
Victor had been arrested.
His evidence exposed the rival network.
The immediate threat was over.
But another problem remained.
Dominic’s enemies had learned something dangerous.
He had a weakness.
Except Beatrice refused the word.
“We’re not weaknesses.”
Dominic looked at her.
“What?”
“Leo and me. We’re not weaknesses.”
“What are you?”
Beatrice smiled.
“Reasons to come home.”
Dominic had no answer.
So he kissed her.

For the first time in months, the mansion filled with laughter.
