Chapter 11 - The Locked Safe Corridor

The attackers had not hacked the emergency system.

Two nights later, Dominic’s security investigator entered the library carrying access records.

“We found something.”

Dominic stood.

“What?”

“The safe corridor wasn’t disabled externally.”

Beatrice felt cold.

“Then how?”

The investigator looked between them.

“Someone inside the house did it.”

Silence.

Memory crashed through Beatrice.

Leo’s missing lunch bag.

The open cabinet.

The wet shoes.

Victor.

Dominic saw her expression.

“What?”

“I think I know who had access.”

His face hardened.

“Who?”

Beatrice almost said the name.

Then stopped.

Because accusation without proof had failed once already.

“I need to check something first.”

Dominic moved closer.

“You’re not investigating this alone.”

“I’m not.”

“You’re thinking about it.”

She was.

He knew her too well now.

“Beatrice.”

She looked at him.

“Promise me.”

She sighed.

“Fine.”

But that night she remembered something.

The charity photograph.

The cruel comments.

And the threatening note afterward.

Only household security had known which bedroom was hers.

Beatrice opened her laptop.

She searched the original social-media post.

The account that had amplified the photograph was anonymous.

But one of its earliest followers had a familiar surname.

Hale.

Beatrice’s stomach dropped.

Behind her, the bedroom door slowly opened.
