Chapter 8 - A Traitor at the Valenti Table

Matteo Valenti arrived at the mansion smiling.

He was fifty-eight, elegant, silver-haired and charming.

He hugged Nico.

Then he saw Elena.

His smile changed.

Just slightly.

Enough.

“You look like your mother.”

Elena froze.

Nico noticed.

“You knew her?”

Matteo smiled.

“Briefly.”

Elena’s heart hammered.

“My mother was an accountant.”

“Many people worked for us.”

“You remembered her face after fifteen years?”

Silence.

Nico turned toward his uncle.

Matteo’s smile disappeared.

The dinner ended.

Two hours later, Matteo tried to leave.

Gabriel stopped him.

They found a second phone.

Messages to Victor.

Payments to Dr. Keller.

And one message sent the morning Elena arrived.

THE GIRL CANNOT BE ALLOWED NEAR NICO.

Nico read it twice.

Then looked at the uncle who had attended every birthday of his childhood.

“Why?”

Matteo laughed.

“You think this empire belongs to you?”

Nico said nothing.

“Your father was weak. You’re worse.”

His gaze moved to Elena.

“Look at you. Risking everything for a nurse.”

Nico stepped between them.

Matteo smiled.

“There. Exactly.”

He leaned closer.

“She’s your weakness.”

Nico’s expression became terrifyingly calm.

“No.”

He looked back at Elena.

“She’s the reason you lost.”

But Matteo still had one card left.

And before sunrise, every Valenti account was frozen.
