Chapter 12 - The Secret Elena Found in His Bloodwork
Nico’s new bloodwork revealed something disturbing.
The infection was improving.
But another marker remained abnormal.
Elena requested toxicology.
Gabriel brought the results.
Chronic exposure.
Tiny doses.
Over months.
Nico had been poisoned long before the explosion.
Elena stared at him.
“Someone has been trying to weaken you gradually.”
“Matteo?”
“Maybe.”
But the substance was administered orally.
Nico’s meals were tested.
His drinks were guarded.
There was only one daily item never checked.
His heart medication.
Elena opened the bottle.
Different tablets were mixed together.
Gabriel traced the prescription.
The authorization carried a signature.
Nico stared at it.
His face lost all color.
It belonged to someone he trusted more than Matteo.
