Chapter 15 - The Place Where Everything Changed
A year after Victor's conviction, Jackson took Emily back to the crash site.
She became quiet.
“Why here?”
“Because I've hated this road for four years.”
“So have I.”
Jackson looked around.
“This is where someone tried to end my life.”
He took her hand.
“But it's also where you saved it.”
Emily's eyes filled.
Jackson knelt.
She covered her mouth exactly as she had in the old photograph.
This time he remembered every second.
“Emily Carter, I can't give us back the years that were stolen.”
She cried silently.
“But I can give you every year that comes next.”
He opened the ring box.
“Will you marry me again?”
Emily laughed through tears.
“Yes.”
Jackson smiled.
“You answered faster this time.”
“I've had four years to think about it.”

She kissed him beneath a sky that was finally clear.
