Jackson changed Reed Industries.
He removed the structures Victor had corrupted.
He created independent oversight.
Marcus became head of corporate security but refused a larger office.
Emily started a foundation for victims and witnesses forced into hiding by violent threats.
She called it Second Light.
Jackson donated the first ten million dollars.
Emily returned the check.
“Too much.”
He wrote another.
She returned that too.
Eventually they compromised.
Marriage, Jackson discovered, required more negotiation than corporate acquisitions.
Their home became noisy.
Friends visited.
Evelyn came for Sunday dinners.
Emily planted flowers everywhere.
The woman who once checked every window before sleeping eventually began forgetting to lock the back door.
That annoyed Jackson enormously.
