Chapter 12 - Sarah's Letter

Spring cleaning revealed a letter hidden inside Sarah's old sewing box.
It was addressed to Gideon.
He could not open it.
Maeve offered to leave.
Instead, he handed it to her.
“Read.”
Sarah had written it during her illness.
She asked Gideon not to turn his grief into a prison.
She worried about the twins.
And she wrote something that made Gideon cover his face.
If another good woman ever brings warmth into this house, don't punish yourself for loving life again.
Maeve stopped reading.
Gideon wept.
Not loudly.
Not dramatically.
He simply sat beside the table while years of grief finally escaped.
Maeve took his hand.
That night, Gideon placed Sarah's photograph on the mantel instead of hiding it.
Healing did not mean forgetting.
Maeve understood that now.
May you like
It meant remembering without allowing the memory to destroy what remained.
