Chapter 13 - Maeve's Forty Acres

Maeve received an offer for her inherited land.
More money than she had imagined possessing.
Gideon told her the decision belonged entirely to her.
She sold part.
Kept part.
With the money, she could have moved east.
Bought dresses.
Started again.
Instead, Maeve purchased books.
Tools.
Livestock.
And supplies for a small schoolroom.
“There are children scattered all through these mountains,” she told Gideon.
“You want to teach them?”
“Yes.”
He looked around the cabin.
“Where?”
Maeve smiled.
“You're building it.”
Gideon groaned.
But by summer, a one-room schoolhouse stood near the cabin.
