Chapter 17 - Hailey's Unexpected Invitation
Two years after Vegas, Hailey became engaged.
His name was Ryan.
Before accepting his proposal, she called me.
"I need you to meet him."
I laughed.
"Why?"
"Because apparently my judgment has historical issues."
That made both of us laugh.
Ryan was kind.
Quiet.
Completely unimpressed by money.
Months later, Hailey asked me to be her maid of honor.
I didn't answer immediately.
She understood.
"You can say no."
That was why I eventually said yes.
At the rehearsal dinner, Mom approached me.
She didn't ask for forgiveness.
She simply said:
"I'm grateful you're here."
It wasn't enough to erase the past.
