Chapter 6 - The Traitor Inside My Company

The accomplice was my vice president of finance, Martin Keene.

He had worked for me for seven years.

He attended my wedding.

He knew my parents.

He sent flowers when my grandmother died.

And he had been feeding Trevor information for eighteen months.

Account structures.

Acquisition schedules.

Insurance policies.

Signature samples.

Martin believed Trevor would gain control of part of my assets through divorce litigation and reward him afterward.

Instead, both men were arrested.

But Martin had done something worse.

He had inserted a hidden clause into one of the acquisition drafts.

If I became "incapacitated" before closing, temporary signing authority transferred to him.

My attorneys caught it hours before execution.

That word haunted me.

Incapacitated.

Trevor's notebook said accidental.

Martin's contract said incapacitated.

This wasn't greed anymore.

It was architecture.

A structure designed around my removal.

When federal financial investigators became involved, they uncovered shell companies connected to Trevor.

More than $600,000 had been diverted from expenses I thought were supporting his fitness startup.

The company barely existed.

The money had funded gambling, travel, gifts to Hailey, payments to Martin, and the Vegas scheme.

Hailey learned that her engagement ring had been purchased with money Trevor stole from one of my accounts.

She removed it and placed it on my desk.

"I don't want it."

"Neither do I."

We stared at it.

Then we both laughed.

It was the first time we'd laughed together in years.

But outside my office, another battle was beginning.

My mother had spoken to a gossip blogger.

She claimed our family was experiencing a "private misunderstanding."

Within hours, social media transformed it into something grotesque.

BILLIONAIRE ARCHITECT LOCKS YOUNG SISTER OUT AFTER LOVE TRIANGLE.

That headline went viral.

Trevor's photograph spread everywhere.

People who knew nothing about me decided who I was.

Cold.

Controlling.

Jealous.

Vindictive.

Then Hailey did something nobody expected.

She turned on her camera.

May you like

And told the truth.
