Chapter 9 - The Night Leo Broke His Own Rule
Leo's rule was simple.
Never act angry.
Anger made men predictable.
Then Arthur kidnapped Rosa.
For the first time in years, Leo lost control.
Norah stopped him.
"If you go angry, he wins."
Leo stared at her.
The frightened woman from the shipyard was gone.
Not completely.
Fear remained.
But now she stood beside it instead of beneath it.
Arthur demanded the ledger in exchange for Rosa.
Norah insisted on going.
Leo refused.
She looked directly into his eyes.
"You told me I wasn't your property."
That ended the argument.
He could protect her.
He could advise her.
He could not own her choices.
