Chapter 10 - The Apology With No Conditions

Vivian wrote Tessa a letter.
Not a text.
Not a demand to meet.
A letter.
There was no “but.”
No “I’m sorry you felt.”
No reminder of everything she had done for Caleb.
She admitted what she had done.
The dinner.
The church.
The apartment.
The financial pressure.
The forged signature.
At the end, she wrote:
I treated your boundaries as obstacles because I believed love gave me permission to know what was best. It does not. You owe me neither forgiveness nor access. If either comes, I understand that I must earn it.
Tessa read the letter twice.
Then she put it away.
She did not call Vivian.
And Vivian, to her credit, did not demand an answer.
Months passed.
Then one afternoon, Tessa asked Caleb a surprising question.
“Do you still want to marry me?”
He looked at her.
“Yes.”
“Why haven’t you asked?”
“Because wanting something doesn’t mean I’m entitled to ask for it whenever I want.”
May you like
Tessa smiled.
That was when she knew he had changed.
