Chapter 14 - The Vows

Their vows were simple.
Caleb went first.
“I used to believe peace meant preventing conflict.”
He looked at Tessa.
“You taught me that sometimes peace requires having the difficult conversation before resentment has a chance to become silence.”
Tessa’s eyes filled.
Then she gave her vow.
“I promise not to confuse loving you with disappearing for you.”
Caleb squeezed her hands.
“And I promise never to ask you to.”
In the front row, Rebecca cried.
Richard sat beside her.
Vivian sat one chair away.
For the first time in more than two decades, all three Sutton children and parents occupied the same space.
