Chapter 12 - Vivian’s Empty Chair

The new wedding had eighty-two guests.
Tessa and Caleb planned every detail together.
An outdoor ceremony.
Wildflowers.
A string quartet.
Dinner beneath hanging lights.
No assigned family traditions unless both of them wanted them.
Then came the question nobody wanted to ask.
Would Vivian be invited?
Tessa made the decision herself.
“Yes.”
Caleb didn’t celebrate.
He simply asked, “Are you sure?”
“I am.”
Vivian received the invitation.
She called no one.
She requested nothing.
But on the wedding morning, her chair remained empty.
Caleb noticed.
He said nothing.
Then, ten minutes before the ceremony, a car pulled up.

Vivian stepped out alone.
And when she approached Tessa, she carried something wrapped in tissue paper.
