Chapter 11 - Travis Steps Back Into the Ring

Travis’s return match attracted attention.
He asked me to corner him.
I refused.
Then Tessa called me stubborn.
Rourke called me worse.
So I agreed.
Before the fight, Travis bounced nervously.
“What if I lose?”
“You might.”
“That’s your motivational speech?”
“You survived losing before.”
He smiled.
When the fight began, I saw a different athlete.
Patient.
Controlled.
Respectful.
He won.
But the important moment happened afterward.
His opponent shoved him after the bell.
Old Travis would have retaliated.
New Travis stepped backward.
The arena booed.
Travis didn’t care.
He looked at me.
I nodded.
That was the real victory.
Roland watched from the back row.
His son saw him.
Neither approached the other.
Not yet.
