Chapter 9 - The Video That Changed Cedar Ridge

The park video crossed ten million views.

Reporters arrived.

I refused interviews.

Tessa didn’t.

That discovery nearly gave me a heart attack.

She spoke to a local reporter about bullying, restraint, and the youth garage.

She never glorified the fight.

She said the most important part wasn’t that her father could fight.

It was that he had spent years choosing not to.

Donations poured into the youth center.

We expanded.

The old warehouse beside my shop became classrooms.

Travis helped raise money.

And when someone online called him a coward for losing to a forty-year-old mechanic, Travis responded publicly.

“I wasn’t beaten because he was stronger. I was beaten because I thought hurting people made me strong.”

That clip became almost as popular as the original.

People can change.

But change doesn’t erase consequences.

Travis still had to live with what he had done.

That was part of becoming better.

Then Roland appeared with unexpected news.

The person who had mailed Sarah’s photograph had been identified.

It was an elderly former accountant connected to the abandoned Black Ridge expansion.

He wanted to meet me.

He claimed Sarah had left something behind.

Something meant for Tessa.
