Chapter 15 - The Letter I Never Expected

Sarah found one final letter from Dad.

It wasn't about Julian.

It was about me.

Genevieve,

If you're reading this because something has gone wrong, your first instinct will be to ask how you failed to see it. Don't waste too much time on that question. Trust is not stupidity. Trust is the price we pay for having real relationships. The responsibility for betraying trust belongs to the person who betrays it.

I stopped reading.

My vision blurred.

For months, I had secretly asked myself the same questions.

How had I missed the affair?

How had I missed the resentment?

How had I promoted Julian?

How had I allowed him near the company my father built?

Dad's letter didn't erase those questions.

But it changed them.

I had made decisions with the information I possessed.

Now I possessed different information.

So I would make different decisions.

I folded the letter and placed it inside Hazel's memory box.

Someday, when she was old enough, I would tell her about her grandfather.

May you like

Not about the money.

About the wisdom.
