Chapter 10 - My Sister Became the Suspect

Tiffany nearly dropped the phone.

“I didn't take anything.”

Claire believed her.

Investigators couldn't simply do the same.

The account existed.

It carried Tiffany's information.

Money had moved through it.

Brad had access to copies of her identification.

Suddenly Tiffany understood how Claire had felt when police arrived.

The assumption.

The humiliation.

The terrifying possibility that paperwork could tell a false story convincingly.

Claire sat beside her during questioning.

Not as a colonel.

As her sister.

Tiffany eventually remembered signing financial documents Brad described as wedding-related investments.

Those signatures had been reused.

Investigators traced the account setup to an IP address associated with Brad's office.

Brad's position deteriorated rapidly.

When confronted, he finally began cooperating.

He admitted Martin and Gregory Shaw used him to approach families socially while Martin handled financial structures.

Brad insisted he never understood the full scale.

Investigators would decide how much of that was true.

But Brad gave them something valuable.

A location.

Martin owned a cabin under another company's name.

Agents found him there.

Gregory Shaw wasn't with him.

Martin surrendered without incident.

Inside the cabin investigators discovered financial records, phones, and a list of potential future targets.

Claire's name had been crossed out.

Beside it someone had written:

RETURNED TOO EARLY.

Claire stared at the words.

Her decision to attend one family dinner had disrupted a plan months in preparation.

But another notation appeared beside her name.

PLAN B — COMPLAINT.

The false police report had not been spontaneous.

It had been prepared before Claire ever arrived.

And whoever planned it knew exactly what time she would reach the house.

May you like

Someone had been watching her.
