Chapter 8 - He Came Back for the Blue Folder

The camera showed Javier entering at 11:43 p.m.

He knew where Dad’s study was.

He knew which drawer had held the folder.

He went directly there.

But the folder was already in Gabriel’s secure office.

Javier searched for eleven minutes.

Desk.

Cabinets.

Bookshelves.

Then he noticed the camera.

He stared directly into it.

That image changed the legal dispute.

Gabriel sent the footage to Javier’s attorney.

The response came before noon.

Javier claimed he had entered only to retrieve personal belongings.

The video contradicted him.

He never entered our bedroom.

Never opened a closet.

Never looked for clothing.

He searched only my father’s papers.

I watched the footage once.

Then I turned it off.

I wasn’t angry anymore.

That frightened me more than anger.

Because indifference meant something had ended.

But Javier wasn’t finished.

The following afternoon, a black car stopped outside Sofia’s apartment.

A woman stepped out carrying a briefcase.

She introduced herself as a representative of the development company.

And what she told me about Javier’s promises made the forged deed look like only the beginning.
