Chapter 17 - The Question Emma Wasn't Ready For

Ben proposed after eighteen months.

Emma said no.

Then cried for six hours.

Ben didn't become angry.

He didn't demand an explanation.

He simply said, “Okay.”

That confused her more than the proposal.

Three days later, she asked him to meet.

“I love you,” she said. “But marriage still feels like a locked door sometimes.”

Ben nodded.

“Then we don't need a door.”

“What?”

“We can just be us.”

No punishment.

No ultimatum.

No emotional debt.

They stayed together.

Six months later, Emma proposed to him.

Not because he pressured her.

Because she chose.

He cried.

She laughed.

When she told me, I screamed loudly enough for my neighbor to knock on the wall.
