Chapter 10 - Trevor's Second Proposal

The following spring, Trevor called.
"I need a favor."
My entire body tensed automatically.
Then he laughed.
"Relax. I'm asking this time."
"What?"
"I want to propose to Caroline."
"Again?"
"Technically, I never completed attempt number one."
I smiled.
"What do you need?"
"Nothing. I just wanted to ask whether you'd be comfortable coming."
"Where?"
"The public pier."
Not my deck.
Not my house.
Not something he expected me to provide.
I went.
Caroline said yes.
And the ring?
He bought one himself.
Grandma's ring remained in my safe.
May you like
Exactly where it belonged.
