Chapter 11 - The Birthday Nobody Expected

Three months later, Noah turned four.
Mom attended with support.
She wasn't allowed to prepare food.
She wasn't responsible for supervising children.
Instead, she sat beside me while Noah opened presents.
Then he handed her one.
Everyone went quiet.
Mom opened it.
Inside was a framed photograph of the two of them from before the accident.
On the back, I had written:
Grandma, we still love you. We just keep each other safe now.
Mom pressed the frame against her chest.
Then Noah climbed onto the couch beside her.
Not her lap.
Beside her.
Another inch.
May you like
Another piece of trust.
