Chapter 15 - The Apology

Mom apologized on an ordinary Tuesday.
No dramatic music.
No family gathering.
No perfect speech.
We were sitting in the courtyard of her residence.
She said:
“I remember some of it.”
I waited.
“Noah screaming.”
Her hands trembled.
“And Daniel.”
She looked at me.
“I hurt him.”
“Yes.”
“I could have hurt Noah worse.”
I didn't lie.
“Yes.”
She cried quietly.
Then she said the words I had stopped expecting.
“You were right to stop me.”
I took her hand.
She continued.
“If I ever tell you otherwise, remember that I'm telling you now.”
That sentence became precious.
