Chapter 14 - The Bowl

Six months after the accident, I found one surviving piece of the broken ceramic bowl behind a kitchen cabinet.
Blue flowers.
White porcelain.
A sharp edge.
I held it for a long time.
Daniel walked in.
“What is that?”
I showed him.
He understood immediately.
“Throw it away.”
I almost did.
Then I stopped.
“No.”
He looked surprised.
I placed it inside a small box.
“Why keep it?”
“Because I spent years believing love meant pretending bad things didn't happen.”
I closed the lid.
“I don't want to do that anymore.”
The bowl wasn't a symbol of hatred.
It was a reminder.
Love without boundaries wasn't kindness.

Sometimes it was negligence wearing a kinder name.
