Chapter 11 - THE DAY CLARA DISAPPEARED

Ethan arrived at the apartment and found the door unlocked.

Clara was gone.

Her phone remained on the table.

So did her medication.

Ethan immediately called Stella.

Within an hour, both families were searching.

Mrs. Adamu blamed herself.

Mr. Adamu barely spoke.

Ethan finally found a note.

"I need somewhere nobody knows me as the pregnant girl, the orphan, the stolen inheritance, or the family scandal. I need one day to remember I'm Clara."

Ethan understood.

She hadn't been kidnapped.

She needed space.

They eventually found her at her parents' graves.

Ethan stayed several yards away.

He didn't interrupt.

Clara sat there for hours.

When she finally stood, she saw him.

"You found me."

"Yes."

"Why didn't you come over?"

"You said you needed space."

She looked at him for a long time.

Then she walked into his arms.

"I don't want to run anymore."

"You don't have to."

"But I'm not going back to that house."

"I know."

Clara returned to her apartment.

She resumed medical appointments.

She began studying again.

And for the first time, she met with a counselor to process grief, betrayal and the enormous changes in her life.

But back at the Adamu house, Stella was preparing to do something nobody expected.

She had found copies of messages on her mother's old phone.

May you like

Messages proving the financial deception had begun years earlier.

And Stella intended to reveal everything.
