Chapter 14 - WHAT CLARA'S FATHER LEFT BEHIND

Clara used part of her inheritance to return to school and secure stable housing.

She didn't buy luxury clothes.

She didn't seek revenge.

She built a future.

Her father's property generated enough rental income to help cover expenses.

Ethan continued working.

They decided not to rush into marriage simply because Clara was pregnant.

"We do it when we're ready," Clara told him.

"Not because people are talking."

Ethan agreed.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Adamu began selling personal assets to repay misused funds.

For the first time, she experienced consequences without being able to blame Clara.

Months passed.

Clara's pregnancy became visible.

Her health improved.

Her laughter returned.

Then one afternoon, Mrs. Adamu appeared at her apartment.

She carried no demands.

Only a bag.

Inside was Clara's mother's jewelry.

"I kept these after she died."

Clara stared.

"Why?"

"I told myself I was protecting them."

"From me?"

Mrs. Adamu lowered her head.

"From facing what I'd become."

She placed the bag down.

"I'm sorry."

Clara didn't say she forgave her.

Not yet.

But she accepted the jewelry.

Before Mrs. Adamu left, Clara said:

"I don't hate you."

Mrs. Adamu began crying.

"But I don't trust you either."

"I understand."

"Trust has to be earned."

May you like

Mrs. Adamu nodded.

It was the first honest conversation they'd ever had.
